Penetration to finish

Entries / Solo mat / Build

Level change, penetration step, then the trail leg steps up and the hips drive through, in one continuous shape.

Solo study. Solo rehearsal of a shape a coach has already shown you. No partner, no resistance, no finish against anyone. Not coach-verified.

Why it matters

Taught separately, the entry and the finish get rehearsed separately, and the seam between them, the knee touching and the trail leg arriving, never gets any attention. This chain is the seam.

The phases

Level change: Lower base. Rendered human phase image, three-quarter view.
Level change, phase 3 of 4: Lower base.
Penetration step • solo: Step through. Rendered human phase image, three-quarter view.
Penetration step • solo, phase 3 of 4: Step through.
Double leg finish • solo drive: Drive the hips. Rendered human phase image, three-quarter view.
Double leg finish • solo drive, phase 3 of 4: Drive the hips.

Level change

  1. Stance. Start in your wrestling stance.
  2. Bend the legs. Lower your level before attempting penetration.
  3. Lower base. Keep your head up as your knees and hips flex.
  4. Recover. Recover to your stance without straightening rigidly.

Watch for: Lowering the head alone is not a level change.

Penetration step • solo

  1. Stance. Use a suitable mat; do not drive a knee into hard flooring.
  2. Change level. Change elevation before moving into the step.
  3. Step through. Place the step under control; the drawing omits an opponent.
  4. Recover. Reset deliberately; a takedown finish is not shown.

Watch for: This is a solo entry pattern, not a complete double-leg takedown.

Double leg finish • solo drive

  1. Knee down. Start from the penetration knee with the chest up and the hands together low.
  2. Trail leg steps up. Bring the trail leg up and to the outside in one step.
  3. Drive the hips. Drive the hips forward and up through the position; the hands stay together.
  4. Stand through. Finish standing through, not standing up. No opponent is shown.

Watch for: Standing straight up from the knee is not a finish. The hips travel forward through the space, not up out of it.

Three common faults

Pausing on the knee
The body stops at the bottom of the step. The knee touches and the trail leg is already moving.
Standing up between beats
The chest rises between the step and the drive. It stays over the knee until the drive.
Rushing the level
The first beat gets skipped to get to the finish. Level first, every time.

In the room

  1. Level, step, then step up. Three beats.
  2. The chest stays over the lead knee until the drive starts.
  3. Drive forward through the space. No opponent is shown.

Where it sits
